Gili AIR Island Life

Gili Air community
Gili Air community

Enjoy beanbag-beer-in-hand bar culture? Become a 3W divemaster trainee and lose yourself to the laidback Gili Air island life of beer-pong bonding with some serious hammock time on the side. Swing in for a selfie on a famous Gili ocean swing and enjoy sunset views with a beer in hand. Then spend your evenings after a hard day of divemaster training in amongst a beach jam session or listening to a local live band.

There is nothing quite like Gili Air island life. This motorless heaven attracts tourist and divemaster interns from all around the world at all times of the year. Like a more quiet life? Visit us during the low season – October to April. The close-knit island community really does band together during this time with bingo nights, and neighboring dive shops enjoy weekly quiz nights as well as many other community-based activities to keep you entertained. Or, for a more action-packed divemaster internship in Indonesia, high season runs from May to September. The island really comes alive at this time with the tourist traffic at its peak.

As a divemaster trainee, sit back and watch the tourists from afar while you connect with the island on a more personal level. Cycle into the village to experience a more traditional side of the island. Hit up a traditional Indonesian wedding or Ramadan celebration with your local crew who are sure to teach you a word or two. Our personal favourite; Adeng-adeng, no worry-chicken curry! And when you get sick of the curry, there’s also plenty of westerners here who have brought with them tasty burger joints and even a French patisserie to fill the bellies of hungry divemaster trainees!

If you’re looking for easy diving and easy living, Gili Air island life always delivers.

Getting To the Gili Islands

Here’s the quickest and easiest ways to get to the Gilis for your divemaster training.
get-to-gili

Plan A:

  • Fly into Bali
  • Take a 2hr fast boat from Serangan Harbour, Padang Bay or Amed (depending on where you are staying in Bali). We personally recommend the following fast boat company; Eka Jaya, leaving from Padang Bay or Blue Water Express from Serangan.
  • Most boat companies will organise a pick up from your hotel.
  • And don’t forget to make sure to get dropped off at the right island when beginning your divemaster training with us!

Plan B:

  • Fly into Lombok
  • Then take a 2 hr drive to Bangsal Harbour either in a car, shuttle bus or taxi. From the harbour, boat transportation to Gili Air is arranged daily from 7 am to 5 pm by slow or speedboat.
  • 3W Dive can arrange a private driver and boat transfer for you that will get you to Gili Air in comfort.

Gili Air Accommodation

There are options for affordable monthly accommodation on Gili Air Island. As a popular tourist destination, Gili Air offers a range of accommodations to suit different budgets. While prices can vary depending on the location, amenities, and time of year, there are usually guesthouses and homestays that offer monthly rates at affordable prices.

The best way to go about it is to book a homestay in advance for 3 or 4 nights. Once among our tribe, you will get help finding a place that suits you.
